Obi Urges FG to Strengthen Security after Attacks on Benue Communities, Commiserates with Victims

Chuks Okocha, a reporter in Abuja, reports that presidential candidate Peter Obi of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on the federal government to strengthen security measures following recent attacks on communities in Benue State. Obi made this appeal on his X platform after touring the affected Otukpo-Nobi and Efeyi-Ugboju communities.

Over ten people were reported killed or missing in the Otukpo-Nobi attack, while several others were injured and receiving medical treatment. Separately, more than thirteen people were killed and numerous others injured in the Efeyi-Ugboju attack. Obi also learned that 14 individuals were kidnapped along Ankpechi Road. He joined the Otukpo-Nobi community in praying for the deceased at their mass burial site and visited a hospital where injured victims were receiving care, offering his support and prayers for their recovery.

Obi emphasized that safeguarding lives and property is the government's primary responsibility, and urged the federal administration to show greater commitment to protecting citizens, especially in areas plagued by insecurity. He reminded the government of its duty to ensure the welfare and safety of its people, stating that failure to fulfill this obligation would not go unnoticed.
