Nearly 10 years after a Florida teen vanished in the middle of the night, detectives turn to psychics for help

Nearly a decade after Florida teenager Sophie vanished in the middle of the night, detectives have turned to psychic consultation in an attempt to crack her case. Patrick Reeder, Sophie's father, expressed skepticism, questioning why they turned to psychics rather than more traditional investigative methods. Sophie had been missing for just over nine years, and despite her disappearance being featured on shows like NBC's "Dateline: Missing in America," the case had gone cold.

In a rare move, the Fort Lauderdale Police Department consulted two psychic profilers, saying they were willing to try new and unique approaches to uncover any lead on Sophie's disappearance. Police spokesperson admitted that using psychics is unusual but necessary in Sophie's case. One psychic profiler, Alejandra Taborn, said she was paid by the police for her services and that the consultations involved 90-minute virtual meetings.

The department's efforts have yet to yield any new information, with the last psychic consultation resulting in a search of a canal which turned up no results. Despite the doubts from the Reeder family, Patrick Reeder remains open to the process, hoping it might lead to new leads.
