Murder inquiry after man bitten by dog dies

A murder inquiry has commenced following the demise of a 55-year-old man who sustained fatal injuries after being bitten by a dog on a footpath in West Yorkshire. The incident occurred on a disused railway line near Blacker Lane in Calder Grove, Wakefield, around 1:30 PM on Saturday. The victim was apprehended and rushed to a hospital in a critical state; he unfortunately passed away shortly after 7:00 PM.

West Yorkshire Police are actively seeking two individuals, one of whom is named Sophie, who stopped to aid the injured man. A police spokesperson disclosed that a 55-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and for owning a dog that was dangerously out of control in a public place, resulting in injury. The suspect is currently in custody, and the dog involved in the incident has been seized by officers.

Det Ch Insp Michael Cox stated, "Sadly, a man has died and it is really important that we understand the circumstances of what has taken place." He emphasized the importance of the two people, including Sophie, coming forward to assist the ongoing investigations into this tragic event. Cox added, "The initial altercation happened in an area used by walkers, and we are urging anyone who has seen or heard any part of the exchange between these two men to please make contact."
