Multiple suspects at large after five shot at Virginia State University, police say

Five individuals were shot outside a residence hall at Virginia State University (VSU) on Saturday morning, resulting in five people being injured, with one critically. VSU, a historically black college, stated that four of the victims had injuries that were not life-threatening, while the other suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was subsequently discharged from the hospital.

Local police confirmed that they believe more than one shooter was involved, but no arrests have been made. Chesterfield County Police are leading the investigation with assistance from other local law enforcement and campus police. Classes for the upcoming term and dormitory access for returning students were scheduled to commence on Monday and Friday respectively.

Lt James R Lamb of the Chesterfield County Police Department noted that one victim was a student and another under 18, but emphasized that "we don't have anybody in custody." The university's spokesperson confirmed that the university has approximately 5,000 students and is situated about 20 miles south of Richmond, Virginia, a historically black college established to provide education to African Americans who were otherwise barred from attending most institutions.
