Mob attacks police officers during attempt to rescue murder suspect in Narok

In Narok County, Kenya, police officers were forced to retreat from the village of Mogoto on Saturday, August 15, 2026, following a violent mob attack while they attempted to rescue a murder suspect. The incident took place in Sagamian Location, Narok Amalo Sub-County, around 1:30pm. Police officers from Tendwet Police Station, led by the Officer Commanding the Station and accompanied by the area chief, went to the village after receiving reports of a murder.

Upon arrival, they found villagers cornering a suspect, who was believed to be linked to the crime, and were met with a hostile crowd. The officers tried to intervene and rescue the suspect, but the mob overpowered them, throwing stones at the police team. The officers responded by firing warning shots into the air, but the onslaught continued.

Forced to prioritize their safety, the team made a tactical withdrawal. The Officer Commanding the Station sustained injuries to his hands and legs from the stones, as did another officer who was hit in the left eye. The incident left a loaded firearm magazine, containing seven 9mm rounds, behind. The situation in the area remained tense after the confrontation, and the circumstances surrounding the murder that sparked the mob action were not disclosed.

Police are investigating both the murder and the confrontation that resulted in officer injuries and the loss of a loaded magazine. Additionally, a police officer escorting a train carrying petroleum products was injured when an unknown person threw a stone at the locomotive as it approached Maili Saba near Mwiki Railway Station.

The officer was treated at Nairobi West Hospital for his injuries. Police are currently investigating the identity of the person responsible for the attack on the train.
