Man held for fatally attacking his father-in-law in Tiruvannamalai

A 40-year-old pharmacist, K. Murugan, has been arrested for fatally assaulting his father-in-law, T. Parasuraman, in Usampadi village near Tiruvannamalai town. Murugan, who operates a pharmacy in Keel Pudur Madura village, married Sri Devi, the daughter of the victim, over a decade ago. The couple, who has two children and resides in Madalampadi village, reportedly had frequent disagreements, particularly when Sri Devi, who works as a nurse in a government health centre, would send her salary to her parents.

Recently, their relationship deteriorated further after an argument over the son's NEET coaching fees at a private institute. In a fit of anger, Murugan locked his family out of the house, leaving them outside until the following Monday. When Sri Devi and her father came to the pharmacy to meet Murugan, an argument erupted between Parasuraman and Murugan over the salary issue.

In a rage, Murugan allegedly attacked his father-in-law with a sharp weapon and fled the scene. Onlookers rescued the injured Parasuraman and took him to the Government Medical College Hospital in Tiruvannamalai town.

Based on a tip-off, police apprehended Murugan from his hideout in the village. A case was registered, and Murugan was taken to the sub-jail in Tiruvannamalai town. Further investigation is underway as authorities probe the incident.
