MACBAN alleges killing of Fulani herdsmen by suspected ‘Irigwe militias’ in Plateau

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), a representative body for Fulani herdsmen in Plateau State, has accused unidentified gunmen, allegedly belonging to the Irigwe militia group, of murdering three of its members. The alleged killings took place in various incidents around Kpanchuku in Jebbu Bassa and Gana Ropp communities, located within the Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

In a strongly worded statement signed by the Plateau State Secretary of MACBAN, Muhammad Salihu Isa, the organization condemned the attacks as unprovoked and barbaric. The victims, identified as Muhammad Salihu Isa, Sani Ibrahim, and Asma’u Salihu, were reportedly tending to their cattle when they were attacked and killed by armed assailants. MACBAN emphasized that the herders and their cattle had not encroached upon any farmland, making the attacks particularly egregious.

The statement further called upon security agencies and relevant authorities to expedite efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure they are held accountable for their actions. MACBAN urged the public to remain calm and law-abiding, discouraging any vigilante justice or retaliation against the attackers.

In the past week alone, MACBAN highlighted that several other herders and their cattle have been killed by gunmen, making the situation increasingly dangerous for Fulani communities in Plateau State. The organization emphasized its commitment to maintaining peace and urged all members to continue their lawful activities without fear of violence.
