Loke rejects 'DAP agenda' claims, says reforms agreed by unity government

PUTRAJAYA: DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke has dismissed allegations that reforms supported by the party within the government constitute a DAP agenda, stating they were commitments mutually agreed upon by Pakatan Harapan and the unity government. Addressing reporters after the DAP National Congress delegates voted overwhelmingly for continued participation in government, Loke asserted that political adversaries had inaccurately depicted the party's pursuit of reforms as self-serving.

"We recognize that our political opponents claim we intend to utilize this convention to exert pressure on the Prime Minister with a DAP agenda," Loke declared. He cited several reforms already agreed upon at both the Pakatan Harapan and Cabinet levels, such as separating the Attorney-General and Public Prosecutor roles, placing a term limit of two for the prime minister, and implementing stricter anti-corruption measures.

Loke emphasized that the separation of the Attorney-General role is an agenda already mutually agreed upon. Similarly, limiting the prime minister's term to two terms and combating corruption are shared agendas. He clarified that these are not exclusive to the DAP. Loke also referenced Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's timeline for upcoming government announcements, stating that the party must allow him to implement the agreed reforms.

Anwar had mentioned in his speech during the PKR National Congress on August 15 that he would release announcements before National Day on August 30, Malaysia Day on September 16, and before the tabling of the 2027 Budget in early October. Loke acknowledged the need for internal room for the Prime Minister to address the reforms.
