PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government plans to introduce the Ehsaas Loan Programme, earmarked at Rs.500 million, to economically empower persons with disabilities (PWDs). Simultaneously, the Ehsaas Scholarship Programme, with a budget of Rs.700 million, has been launched to support students with disabilities. The initiatives are set to be incorporated into the Annual Development Programme for the current fiscal year.
Under the Ehsaas Loan Programme, interest-free loans will be granted to PWDs on favorable terms, facilitating them to establish businesses, generate a respectable income, and attain economic self-reliance. The primary goal of the program is to address the educational requirements of students with disabilities and offer them enhanced prospects for higher education.
Scholarships will be provided to eligible students with disabilities through the programme. Advisor to KP CM on Social Welfare, Malik Liaquat Ali Khan, revealed that the Ehsaas Umeed Card Programme would be inaugurated soon. Under this scheme, 10,000 PWDs will receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 5,000. Khan also mentioned a similar card-based initiative for orphans and widows, where eligible beneficiaries will receive Rs.
5,000 per month. All financial aid under the scheme will be directly deposited into the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries, ensuring transparency and enabling deserving individuals to receive their assistance conveniently. Registration facilities will be made available at the beneficiaries' doorstep, with Social Welfare Department officials visiting households to register eligible beneficiaries and gather necessary information.
Khan announced a financial assistance of Rs.50,000 for an elderly person with a disability and directed the relevant authorities to expedite the resolution of issues faced by PWDs. He also announced a special quota for persons with disabilities in the Dowry Fund to alleviate the financial burdens of these individuals and their families.
