Health Ministry reviews NDC manifesto commitments

The Ministry of Health has transferred 30 ambulances from the Ghana Air Force Base at Burma Camp to the National Security for refurbishment and reintegration into the national emergency response fleet. This move comes after receiving legal approval from the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice. An initial examination of the vehicles was carried out by the State Transport Company (STC), with additional technical inspections planned to evaluate their roadworthiness and the necessary refurbishment needed before the ambulances can be used.

The handover is part of government efforts to bolster the National Ambulance Service's operational capacity and enhance access to prompt pre-hospital emergency care nationwide. Key figures present at the transfer included the Legal Adviser to the Minister for Health, Nana Baffour Kotei Kutin Sraman II, the National Ambulance Service's CEO Dr. George Kojo Owusu, and representatives from the National Security and Ghana Armed Forces.

The keys to the ambulances were handed over to a National Security official to manage the refurbishment process. Post-refurbishment, these ambulances will undergo technical and roadworthiness tests before being cleared for deployment. The introduction of the refurbished ambulances is anticipated to significantly bolster the emergency ambulance fleet, improving the service's ability to respond swiftly and safely to medical emergencies and transport patients.

This initiative reflects ongoing initiatives to optimize Ghana's public assets and expand the National Ambulance Service's capability to deliver timely pre-hospital emergency care across the country.
