GMet warns of severe rainstorm across northern Ghana

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued a severe weather warning for certain northern regions of Ghana due to a powerful rainstorm impacting northern Benin. Forecast models predict the storm will progress westward, potentially impacting parts of the Upper East, North East, Northern, Upper West and Savannah regions throughout the evening and early morning hours.

GMet anticipates the storm will deliver gusty winds, frequent lightning, and moderate to heavy rainfall, creating hazardous conditions for both residents and motorists. In a statement released on Sunday, August 16, GMet cautioned residents in the affected areas to take necessary precautions and seek shelter during periods of heavy rain and lightning.

The public is advised to avoid open spaces and isolated trees to mitigate the risk associated with lightning and strong winds. Motorists are urged to exercise caution on roads, particularly during heavy rainfall when visibility may be compromised and roads may become slippery. GMet has further urged residents to regularly monitor official weather updates for any developments or additional guidance as the storm approaches.
