Ganduje’s son returns to APC after 3 months in Kwankwaso’s NDC

Abdulaziz Umar Ganduje, the eldest son of former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has rejoined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party following a three-month stint with the New Democratic Congress (NDC). On Sunday, Abdulaziz was welcomed back into the APC at his father's ward office in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, where he received his membership card.

The event, attended by party officials and supporters, signaled a recommitment to the APC structure in Kano. Abdulaziz had previously joined the NDC and used its nomination form for the Dawakin Tofa/Tofa/Rimin Gado Federal Constituency seat, aligning himself with the Kwankwasiyya movement led by former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a major rival of his father.

His return to the APC was symbolic, as the deadline for obtaining nomination forms had passed, making it a statement of political loyalty rather than an electoral move. Nonetheless, this return is considered a crucial development in reinforcing the Ganduje family's political influence in Dawakin Tofa. For years, Kano politics has been marked by the intense rivalry between Kwankwaso's Kwankwasiyya movement and Abdulaziz's APC faction.

Abdulaziz's earlier defection to the NDC was viewed as a significant victory for Kwankwasiyya, while his subsequent return fortifies his father's political base in anticipation of the 2027 elections.
