Fake agency: Disagreements stall Reps panel report

A House of Representatives ad hoc committee investigating the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) has faced delays due to disagreements among its members. Chairman Yusuf Gagdi's committee has been in session for over a month, but its final report is now being delayed. The committee questioned several government officials about their roles in the creation of the purported agency.

However, the officials claimed they acted on information provided by Adeniyi Adeyemi, who had claimed to be the Director-General of the agency. Adeyemi later clarified that he never met President Bola Tinubu's Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila. The Presidency and Chief of Staff denied the allegations, calling the agency fictitious and accusing Adeyemi of forging documents.

Despite the committee's plans to hold a press conference and question Adeyemi, these events have not occurred. Disagreements within the committee, including a lack of formal invitation to Gbajabiamila, are contributing to the delay. Critics, such as Amnesty International and Transparency International, argue that the investigation is flawed and could fail to address key questions about the PFIPC controversy.
