Eyeing recovery of Rs 6,000 crore, Delhi extends water bill late payment waiver

The Delhi government aims to recover outstanding dues worth Rs 6,000 crore by extending its waiver scheme on late payment charges for water bills. This is the second extension of the scheme. The Water Minister, Parvesh Sahib Singh, announced the extension, stating that the deadline for settling old dues and waiving late payment surcharges is now March 31, 2027.

This move is intended to help consumers clear their principal dues without being burdened by late payment charges that compound over time. The waiver applies to both domestic and non-domestic consumers, covering 14.09 lakh domestic and 70,312 commercial consumers. The DJB has collected Rs 815.84 crore in principal dues so far, benefiting 5.27 lakh consumers.

The government assures that this is the final extension and March 31, 2027, will be the last deadline for the scheme.
