Ex-TMC MLA Asish Banerjee faced no case of corruption: CM Suvendu denies any police ‘pressure’ caused his death

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has denied accusations that former TMC MLA Asish Banerjee faced pressure from corruption cases following his death. Adhikari stated that no case was registered against Banerjee and he was never notified by police. Instead, he suggested that corrupt individuals within the TMC might have threatened Banerjee with naming him in a probe if there were any investigations.

Meanwhile, former CM Mamata Banerjee alleged that Banerjee endured "mental and emotional strain" in his final days, being "repeatedly maligned, falsely accused and subjected to relentless pressure." Banerjee, who was 74, was found dead at a TMC office near his residence in Rampurhat, Birbhum district, with a purported suicide note also discovered.

The note claimed he never engaged in corruption, regretted entering politics, and referred to the Tarapith-Rampurhat Development Authority. Police are examining the contents of the note and investigating the circumstances of his death, while local BJP MLA Dhruba Saha called for a proper investigation.
