Dollar Was Rs. 100 When I Was in Power: Nawaz Sharif

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif shared memories of the exchange rate between the Pakistani rupee and the US dollar during his time in office. During a meeting in Murree, he stated that the dollar was approximately Rs. 100 when he held the position of prime minister. Reflecting on the current situation, Sharif expressed astonishment at how the exchange rate had escalated significantly since then.

Addressing the challenges faced by his government, Nawaz Sharif warned that failing to meet the expectations of voters would lead to a loss of public confidence. He emphasized the need for improved infrastructure, such as better roads and hospitals, and stressed the importance of creating more employment opportunities for the population. The former prime minister also advocated for promoting tourism, providing laptops and scholarships for students, and introducing a Kisan Card in Azad Kashmir.

Sharif expressed his party's commitment to transforming Azad Kashmir into a region on par with Punjab, promising greater funding and development initiatives. He congratulated the winners of the recent Azad Kashmir elections and acknowledged the efforts of the candidates who did not succeed. However, he also expressed disappointment over the conduct of certain political actors and highlighted the disappointment that his coalition partners had been in power in the region.

Sharif stressed the importance of maintaining the traditionally peaceful political environment of Azad Kashmir and called for unity among politicians, discouraging personal hostility fueled by political differences. He also praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's efforts to improve Pakistan's economic situation and recalled the exchange rate of Rs. 100 when he himself was prime minister, questioning the extent to which it had changed over time.
