Din Thomas retires from cornering fighters after Gillian Robertson’s disappointing loss at UFC 330

Newark, New Jersey - May 9: Din Thomas, the UFC analyst and cornerman, has announced his retirement from cornering fighters after his work at UFC 330. His final bout was Gillian Robertson's strawweight title fight against Mackenzie Dern. While Robertson ultimately won the fifth round, she lost a unanimous decision to Dern. Thomas seemed particularly frustrated with Robertson's lack of offensive action during the fight, telling her to "wake up" in between rounds.

After the event, Thomas stated on the UFC post-fight show, "I told myself I would continue to do this until I took Gillian as far as she could go; I think that might be as far as she can go, and I am officially retiring from cornering fighters tonight." Thomas, who has been coaching for nearly three decades, including time at American Top Team, has become a bigger part of UFC production in recent years, both as an analyst and host of the promotion's YouTube show, Deep Waters.

With the added demands of his new roles, Thomas feels this is the right time to step away from cornering fighters. He acknowledges that it's a lot of work, stress, and responsibility, and that he's now focusing on hosting Deep Waters and not cutting weight with his fighters.
