DCI detectives arrest 15 individuals with crude weapons in Kisumu operation

In a recent operation in Kisumu County, 15 suspected members of a criminal gang were arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). The arrests came after intelligence indicated a group of individuals armed with crude weapons were traveling on the Kisumu–Kericho highway. DCI stated that detectives from the Operations Support Unit (OSU), Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), Nyanza Region, and DCI Kisumu Central swiftly intercepted three vehicles.

The suspects were found in a grey Toyota Noah and two white Toyota Hiace vans, operating under Nyakija Classic Shuttle along the Kisumu–Migori route. During the operation, a search of the vehicles and suspects recovered multiple mobile phones, assorted machetes and pangas, knives, ropes, a metal rod or club, and other items believed to be intended for criminal activities.

One suspect managed to escape during the operation, believed to have been leading the group by jumping through a vehicle window. The 15 arrested individuals, along with the recovered exhibits, are currently in custody and undergoing processing. The DCI aims to disrupt criminal networks before they can carry out attacks, keeping dangerous individuals and weapons off the streets.

The agency also urged the public to report any suspected criminal activities through its Fichua Kwa DCI initiative, which allows anonymous reporting via a toll-free number or WhatsApp.
