Cristiano Ronaldo says he will 'probably' retire at end of season

Cristiano Ronaldo has announced his intention to retire from professional football at the conclusion of the upcoming season. The 41-year-old forward made this statement following his recent marriage to his long-term partner, Georgina Rodriguez. Speaking to Vogue magazine, Ronaldo expressed his desire to leave a memorable legacy, stating, "This is probably my last year of football, and I want to leave a spectacular legacy."

He elaborated, "I have my future all mapped out. I have so many things to keep me busy that to tell you just one thing is hard. Because football could leave a big hole, you have to fill your time in various ways, not just one." Ronaldo also mentioned that he plans to pursue additional interests, such as enjoying his earnings, traveling more, and engaging in activities like padel, a sport he enjoys.

The Portuguese star's pursuit of 1,000 career goals continues, with his current tally standing at 976. Ronaldo, who was instrumental in Al Nassr's recent Saudi Pro League title victory, also expressed his desire to play alongside his 16-year-old son, Cristiano Junior, who is part of the club's youth team. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner began his career with Sporting in 2002, subsequently achieving significant success at Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus before joining Al Nassr.

Ronaldo's decision to retire follows Lionel Messi's recent admission of contemplating a similar move, citing the death of his father, Jorge, as a contributing factor.
