Chase Briscoe 'frustrated' after second-place finish at Richmond

Chase Briscoe expressed frustration after securing a second-place finish at Richmond Raceway on Saturday night. Joey Logano ultimately claimed victory, holding off a late charge from Briscoe during the final laps. Briscoe led for 171 of the 400 laps, yet a strong performance from Logano in the third stage shifted the lead late in the race. Despite his efforts, Briscoe failed to pass Logano one final time, causing him to express dissatisfaction with the outcome.

Briscoe acknowledged that he had never finished in the top 10 in nine previous starts at Richmond Raceway, making his second-place finish his best performance at the track to date. He emphasized the frustration of being close yet falling short, stating, "This has been a real struggle for me, this place. I think that’s my first-ever top 10 here. Just to be that close and not get it done is still frustrating."

The race's outcome may have been influenced by a post-race pit lane move. Briscoe noted that his brakes were superior for most of the race, giving him an advantage over other competitors. However, when his brake performance diminished towards the end, his overall strength decreased, making it difficult for him to maintain his lead. This brake issue proved to be a costly factor in Briscoe's runner-up finish at Richmond.

Although the victory was not achieved on the track, Briscoe's second-place finish had a positive impact on his overall standings. With only two races remaining before the Chase commenced, Briscoe had previously been at risk of being overtaken in the points standings. Nevertheless, his second-place finish enabled him to retain fifth place for the time being.

While the gap between him and Tyler Reddick in fourth place appears insurmountable, Briscoe has ample opportunity to focus on defending his own position during the final two races leading up to the postseason.
