Carroll sends statement with season-opening sweeps: It's best in the state.

One day and two matches into the 2026 Indiana high school volleyball season, Carroll has firmly established itself as the best team in the state. The two-time defending Class 4A state champions, ranked 21st nationally, swept both their opening opponents - Plainfield and Westfield - with convincing 3-0 victories, posting a combined score of 148-10.

Carroll's impressive performance was anchored by a solid nucleus of returners and new faces stepping into prominent roles. Senior Cala Haffner, a 2028 Texas commit, praised the team's unity and the efforts of younger players to adapt and contribute. Outside hitter Sarah Stegall, a senior Notre Dame commit, noted that the team now has a chance to see all its players shine and experience breakout seasons.

Defensively, Carroll showcased their prowess with standout defensive specialists and pins who can pass. They were scrappy, digging out seemingly every shot and seldom letting the ball hit the floor. Libero Haffner logged 17 digs, five assists, and zero errors on nine receptions, while senior DS Ella Cracker contributed 10 digs with 21 receptions.

Offensively, Carroll committed 23 attack errors, their most since a five-set win in October 2024. However, they tightened up against Westfield, hitting .263 with 19 errors. Junior Sarah Stegall emphasized that the team continues to fine-tune its communication, ball control, and defensive discipline. Coach Pandy Sinish highlighted the team's defense as one of its greatest strengths, citing standout defensive specialists and pins who can pass.
