CanineIQ - Are You Actually Ready for the Dog You Want?

CanineIQ is an innovative tool aiming to ensure prospective dog owners are suitably prepared for the responsibilities associated with their chosen breed. The platform emerged from a harrowing CCTV footage incident in India, where a couple was brutally mauled by an uncontrolled pitbull. CanineIQ was created to address irresponsible ownership, offering a unique assessment disguised as a dog welfare intervention.

The assessment comprises eight critical questions about living conditions, experience, time, training, budget, household safety, motivation, and life stability. Following the assessment, users receive three essential outputs: a readiness score, a letter penned from the dog's perspective, and a breed health transparency page. The readiness score ranges from 0 to 100, with clear categories—READY (score ≥70), CAUTION (score ≥40), and NOT_READY (score below 40).

The tool takes a data-driven approach, utilizing a deterministic engine to weigh each response against the breed's documented needs, including energy, space, fragility, grooming, health costs, and household safety. The scoring engine provides a transparent, unbiased evaluation devoid of stereotypes or marketing claims.

CanineIQ's multimedia approach includes a breed health transparency page detailing genetic damage in popular breeds, such as French Bulldogs needing palate surgery by age three, and Pugs facing breathing difficulties. This content is sourced from OFA, AKC Canine Health Foundation, The Kennel Club (UK), RSPCA, and Cambridge/Cornell veterinary research.

With a user-friendly interface, CanineIQ works in real-time on Android and desktop devices, requiring no API keys or desktop software. The tool avoids LLM predictions by providing deterministic results, ensuring honesty in the assessment process. It also includes a feature where the dog's letter is read aloud by ElevenLabs' emotional text-to-speech, offering a poignant narrative.
