Canadian farm representative reveals reason behind SAR 1.3 million falcon sale

A Canadian farm representative disclosed the reason behind the substantial sale price of a Super White Gyr hybrid falcon during the 2026 International Auction for Falcon Production Farms. Faris Abdullah Al-Faris, the farm's representative, explained that the 1.3 million riyal ($353,000) sale price highlighted the falcon's exceptional value and rare qualities.

Producing a falcon of this caliber demands years of expertise and meticulous breeding efforts. The falcon, sold on the auction's final night, was anticipated to fetch a high price due to its unique characteristics and quality. Al-Faris, acknowledging the farm's long-standing presence in the auction since its beginning, emphasized that the high sale price was predicted based on the falcon's specifications, which ultimately materialized, making it the second most expensive Gyr hybrid sold at the event.

The farm, established in the early 1980s, is a pioneer in falcon production and maintains one of the world's most prestigious breeding lines. These bloodlines now support breeding programs at numerous farms globally. Al-Faris noted that the sold male falcon's value could have been higher if it were a female, as exceptional females are crucial for breeding and preserving bloodlines.

Another falcon bred for racing, also from the farm, sold for 150,000 riyals. The farm's participation and sales demonstrate the high demand and interest from falcon enthusiasts and professionals worldwide. Previous auctions have also seen significant sales, with one transaction reaching 1.75 million riyals, showcasing the auction's credibility and appeal to leading falcon production farms.
