Borderlands Mexico: ANPACT warns tariffs threaten truck trade as exports surge

ANPACT, the National Association of Bus, Truck and Tractor-Trailer Producers, has warned that tariffs could harm truck trade between the United States and Mexico as exports surge. Mexico's heavy-duty truck industry saw significant growth in July, with production up 51.8% year over year and exports increasing 66.7%. However, retail sales dropped 9.9% compared to the same period last year.

Despite these strong July results, year-to-date figures are still below 2025 levels, with production, exports, and retail sales declining. ANPACT emphasized the importance of maintaining certainty around the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) for the industry's growth, urging policymakers to preserve the trade pact's core principles and express concern about rising imports of used heavy-duty vehicles from the U.S. Stonepeak, a private equity firm, acquired an 860,100-square-foot rail-served logistics property in Fort Worth, Texas, expanding its presence at a major freight hub.

Green Tide Logistics launched a new maritime service connecting the Port of Tuxpan in Mexico with Port Canaveral, Florida, and Port Philadelphia, aiming to provide an alternative to cross-border trucking for freight moving between the two countries.
