PTPTN borrowers struggle to find jobs matching their qualifications, says academic. Malaysia's National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loans need different treatment for those unable to pay, according to experts. Noor Azlan Ahmad Zanzali from Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia emphasizes the main issue isn't wiping out PTPTN debts, but identifying each borrower's financial situation.

He suggests a targeted system to differentiate borrowers based on their economic and social circumstances before taking any action. Azlan also mentions PKR Deputy President Kamil Munim's suggestion for the government to consider a targeted mechanism for forgiving or resolving debts for truly unqualified borrowers. He reminds that borrowers' economic capabilities vary, with some graduates earning well while others are still building simple lives on modest incomes.

Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia's Affendi Ewan Matore stresses the need for the government to improve targeted debt resolution, proposing clearly defined criteria to avoid giving aid indiscriminately. He suggests using employment earnings, net income, housing commitments, and dynamic credit profiles to determine eligibility. He believes aid should be given to robust poor groups that pass clear ability tests or those proven unable to generate stable income or experiencing prolonged unemployment.
