Best and worst PFF grades from the Panthers' preseason loss to Bills

The Carolina Panthers suffered a disappointing 29-14 preseason loss to the Buffalo Bills in their second outing at Highmark Stadium. However, not all players came away with poor Pro Football Focus (PFF) grades. Here are Carolina's best and worst PFF grades from the defeat:

Best of the offense:

1. Quarterback Kyle Trask received a high 84.8 grade. He completed six of his nine throws for 53 yards, a touchdown, and an interception in his first appearance.

2. Center Nick Samac earned an 81.2 grade.

3. Left guard Joshua Gray had a 77.8 grade.

4. Right tackle Albert Reese IV recorded a 73.4 grade.

5. Center Sam Hecht also performed well with a 73.2 grade.

Worst of the offense:

30. Right tackle Ryan Hayes received a disappointing 50.6 grade.

31. Right guard Jake Curhan had a 48.8 grade.

32. Wide receiver Elijah Cooks scored a 46.8 grade.

33. Running back Miles Davis had a 45.6 grade.

34. Center Luke Fortner received a 44.1 grade, despite not being awful in pass protection.

Best of the defense:

1. Outside linebacker Jaelan Phillips led the Panthers with a team-best 88.9 grade. He recorded two pressures, a sack, and a hurry on five chances, resulting in a team-best 90.3 grade in pass rushing.

2. Inside linebacker Trevin Wallace earned an 80.8 grade.

3. Inside linebacker Devin Lloyd had a 79.1 grade.

4. Cornerback Akayleb Evans received a 75.8 grade.

5. Defensive tackle Kyon Barrs had a 71.6 grade.

Worst of the defense:

31. Inside linebacker Claudin Cherelus was the Panthers' second-worst coverage grade at 38.5. He allowed four receptions for 70 yards over four targets.

32. Inside linebacker Bam Martin-Scott received a 35.1 grade.

33. Cornerback Corey Thornton also had a 35.1 grade.

34. Outside linebacker Jeremiah Moon recorded a 30.2 grade.

35. Defensive tackle Bobby Brown III had a team-worst 29.8 grade, with zero tackles and pressures over 12 defensive snaps.
