Amanal Petros wins men’s marathon at European championships. Alisa Vainio dominates in women’s race

Amy Hunt secured Britain's fourth gold medal in a single edition of the European championships, as the team triumphed in the mixed 4x100 relay. Hunt had previously won two individual titles, adding a third in the women's 4x100 relay. The victorious team consisted of Jeremiah Azu, Dina Asher-Smith, Zharnel Hughes, and Hunt, who crossed the finish line in 39.97 seconds, narrowly edging out Germany and Spain.

Hunt expressed her elation at winning alongside her fellow athletes. Asher-Smith secured her career eighth European championship gold and moved ahead of late Polish sprinter Irena Szewinska as the competition's most decorated athlete. Swedish pole vaulter Armand "Mondo" Duplantis claimed his fourth consecutive European championship title, clearing 6.15 meters in the men's pole vault.

In the final event of the championships, Britain and Italy were tied atop the medal table with nine golds each. Italy emerged victorious in the men's 4x400 relay, topping the overall medal table with 22 medals, three more than Britain. Meanwhile, Alisa Vainio dominated the women's marathon, finishing in 2 hours, 22 minutes, and 26 seconds, more than five minutes ahead of silver medalist Lili Anna Vindics-Toth of Hungary.
