Alidou scores on penalty, Bennett adds ninth as Roses brat AFC Toronto 2-0

Marie-Yasmine Alidou scored the decisive penalty in the 55th minute, helping the Montréal Roses secure a 2-0 victory over AFC Toronto in a Northern Super League match on Sunday. Elyse Bennett contributed with her ninth goal of the season, bringing the Roses' record to 9-4-3. The Roses, playing their first game under interim head coach Maryse Bard-Martel, were leading 2-0 when Shelina Zadorsky appeared to equalize for Toronto in the 68th minute.

However, Zadorsky's goal was ruled out for offside. Toronto goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo had to make seven saves, five on target, while Roses keeper Anna Karpenko faced 20 shots, nine of which were on target, to keep her team in front. The Roses were in a difficult spot after firing coach Robert Rositoiu on Thursday following a 1-0 loss to semi-pro side Simcoe County in the W Canadian Championship.
