AG Todd Blanche: DOJ may take states' voter roll fight to Supreme Court – NBC Chicago

Attorney General Todd Blanche indicated on Sunday there is a "possibility" that the Justice Department may seek Supreme Court intervention in numerous cases where judges have ruled against the federal government's attempts to access voter rolls from states ahead of the November midterm elections. Blanche noted during an appearance on NBC News' "Meet the Press" that the issue of election integrity, which President Trump campaigned on, is an important matter for all Americans.

The attorney general emphasized that the Department of Justice's investigation into election integrity is not something to be avoided, but rather embraced. The legal disputes stem from a directive issued by President Trump, requesting states to surrender their voter roll information, which includes names, birthdates, residential addresses, driver's license numbers, and the last four digits of Social Security numbers.

While some states have willingly complied, the Justice Department has taken legal action against 30 states and Washington, D.C., for their refusal to share such data. Federal judges in states like Oregon and Michigan have sided with at least 22 states seeking to prevent the federal government from obtaining their voter roll records.

States running for the federal government, including Idaho, Nevada, Utah, Georgia, and Vermont, are among those challenging the government's request in court. Blanche also addressed Senate Democrats' concerns about the Justice Department becoming the president's "wholly owned subsidiary" and prioritizing his agenda over upholding the rule of law.

He assured viewers that he would act with integrity, ensuring that prosecutors would do the same, and that the Department of Justice would pursue cases fairly and justly.
