Adansi Akrofuom MP secures licences for over 50 okada riders

In the Adansi Akrofuom Constituency of the Ashanti Region, more than fifty commercial motorcycle riders have received assistance from their Member of Parliament, Joseph Azumah, to obtain riders' licenses. The objective of this initiative is to enable the beneficiaries to operate legally and circumvent potential issues with law enforcement officials due to the absence of proper documentation.

During an interview with news correspondent Isaac K. Normanyo, Mr. Azumah explained that okada riders form an integral part of communities but often lack the necessary support, especially outside of election periods. He emphasized that the license acquisition program aims to provide practical assistance to the riders, beyond the usual help they receive during election seasons.

The MP outlined that the initiative will proceed in stages, with plans to support more than a thousand riders across the constituency in acquiring the required licenses.

Mr. Azumah also appealed to the beneficiaries to approach their work seriously, urging them to steer clear of substance abuse and other activities that might jeopardize their futures. The MP cautioned that substance abuse could undermine the progress of young riders, hindering their ability to seize available opportunities.

The beneficiaries welcomed the intervention, describing it as timely and beneficial for their work. Several of the riders expressed that having the required licenses would minimize confrontations with the police and boost their confidence in operating their motorcycles. They also appreciated the MP for honoring a pledge he had made during a previous meeting with the riders.
