Young starlets power Ontario past Ashland in season opener

Ontario's coach Larry Atkinson and his team were puzzled about where their goals would come from this season. Coach Atkinson admitted that they had many defensive players, including a player who hadn't played in the last two years, so they knew they would need to rely on their speed to generate scoring opportunities. Ashland boys soccer team put an emphatic end to Ontario's season opener win with a 4-2 victory.

Ontario's Keatyn Kilgore scored twice in the opening 30 seconds and the 26th minute, setting the tone for the win. Senior Braelyn Llewellyn and sophomore Mia Moton also scored, while Maia Fox provided an assist. Ontario had numerous chances to score, but the team's finishing was not efficient enough. Ashland's Mia Gonzalez pulled one back before the half, and the teams were tied at 2-2 at halftime.

Moton completed a counterattack just before halftime to restore the two-goal lead. Kilgore added another goal in the second half to make it 4-2 for Ontario, but Ashland's Gonzalez scored two more goals to bring the score to 4-4. Freshman Kilgore stated that they came out strong but there were things to work on. Coach Atkinson noted that they will work on their finishing in the upcoming week before their next match against Lexington.
