What is korfball? You can learn at this new city event

A new event in Cincinnati aims to introduce niche sports to the community and potentially host world championships. The Rec Fest Cincinnati, organized by the Cincinnati Regional Sports Commission, will be held at Downtown's Sawyer Point park on September 27 from noon to 6 p.m. The event, which will last for several hours, will feature 16 different sports for visitors to learn about and try out.

Kyle Reiser, who leads the Queen City Korfball group, explained that the commission is working with 15 other niche sports teams to showcase the variety of options available to locals. Each sport will have its own designated area at Sawyer Point, where participants can sign up for local teams. The commission, in collaboration with Visit Cincy, hopes that showcasing niche sports will attract potential world championships to Cincinnati in the future.

Some of the lesser-known sports that will be featured at the event include team handball, korfball, Gaelic football, orienteering, broomball, tennis, pickleball, rugby, Australian football, fishing, ultimate frisbee, disc golf, women's football, e-sports, roller skating, and cricket. Visitors to the event will need to fill out a waiver available online before participating.
