WAEC extends 2026 GCE registration deadline to August 28

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has extended the registration deadline for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates, Second Series. This announcement was made by WAEC on its X handle, stating that registration is now open until August 28, 2026. The council encouraged prospective candidates to utilize this extension and complete their registration process.

Known as WAEC GCE, this examination is designed for individuals not enrolled in regular secondary schools, offering them a chance to obtain or enhance their O’Level results independently. The examination will be conducted entirely through a Computer-Based Examination (CBE). The registration fee remains at N37,000, and the exam is scheduled to be held between September and October 2026.

Candidates are advised to visit their nearest WAEC office to confirm available examination towns before finalizing their registration. It is noted that registration for the examination began on May 4, 2026, and this extension supersedes the earlier deadline of July 31, 2026.
