US: 19 Million Eggs Recalled over Salmonella Risk

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced that approximately 19 million eggs, voluntarily recalled by Midwest Poultry Services, pose a significant risk of serious health consequences, potentially leading to death. The recall was initiated on July 22, 2026, due to potential contamination with Salmonella Enteritidis, a bacterium known to cause severe infections, particularly in vulnerable populations such as children, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals.

The FDA has classified this recall as Class 1, indicating a situation where there is a reasonable probability that exposure to the product may lead to serious adverse health consequences or death. The eggs in question were produced in Texas between June 6 and July 3, 2026, and had sell-by or best-by dates ranging from July 20 to August 17, 2026. These eggs, encompassing both white and brown shell varieties, were distributed to stores and consumers in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Mississippi.

The recall covers a total of 1,589,577 dozen eggs, including those from a variety of brand names. The company identified the contamination issue through proactive environmental monitoring and a thorough internal investigation at two of its farms in Texas. Additionally, the company started its own testing protocols to pinpoint the potential sources of Salmonella contamination.

Consumers are strongly advised not to consume these eggs and should dispose of them or return them to the retailer for a full refund. The company has not reported any specific illnesses linked to its products.
