Troops Thwart Another ISWAP Attempt to Overrun Military Base in Biu, Inflicting Casualties on Extremist Fighters

On the night of August 15, 2026, ISWAP terrorists launched a coordinated assault on Forward Operating Base Mandaragirau, located in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, Nigeria. The Joint Task Force North-East, specifically the 162 Amphibious Battalion, swiftly responded to the threat, operating under Operation Hadin Kai. The attack was executed from two directions at approximately 0200 hours, according to the military.

Acting Military Information Officer Captain Mohammed Goni provided a detailed account of the battle.

Following the detection of the terrorists through early-warning systems, a combat team was dispatched to interdict the attackers. The initial exchange of fire was intense, and the combat team emerged victorious, thwarting the first group of attackers. The second group attempted to bypass the ambush but faced superior firepower and was also defeated.

The successful defense forced the insurgents to retreat in disarray. In the aftermath, troops conducted a hot pursuit, exploiting the contact area and their withdrawal routes. A significant number of terrorists were eliminated, and the military recovered a substantial quantity of equipment, including AK-47 rifles, a rocket-propelled grenade launcher, and various combat tools. Footage from surveillance systems showed the terrorists dragging bodies towards the Timbuktu Triangle.

Remarkably, there were no casualties among the troops. The military commended the 162 Amphibious Battalion for their bravery and tactical excellence, emphasizing their readiness and operational effectiveness. As stated by Captain Goni, Operation Hadin Kai remains committed to dominating the battlefield, denying the terrorists freedom of action, and restoring peace and security to the North-East region.
