Troops killed terrorists, recovered ammunition in attempted attack base

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, engaged and eliminated two terrorists while intercepting a vehicle carrying 180 units of 20mm Super Power explosives in Zamfara State. The operations, carried out on Friday, marked intensified offensive actions against terrorist groups and their supply lines throughout the North-West region.

Sector 2 troops were clearing out Garin Kaso in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area when they came face-to-face with the terrorists, resulting in a fierce firefight. During the opening clash, two terrorists were killed, and the troops recovered weapons, ammunition, and motorcycles.

Following the initial confrontation, another group of terrorists launched an ambush from concealed positions, but the troops managed to repel the attack, pushing the enemy to retreat and leaving behind wounded fighters and neutralized comrades. Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the Media Information Officer for JTF North West, reported that the number of enemy casualties from the ambush was still under investigation. The fleeing terrorists subsequently handed over the bodies and wounded.

In a separate incident that same day, troops conducting routine road checks intercepted a 57-year-old man named Sani Umar, suspected of carrying explosives. A search of Umar's vehicle yielded 180 units of 20mm Super Power explosives. Authorities have taken Umar, his vehicle, and the recovered explosives into custody for further investigation.

The latest operations are part of ongoing efforts to target terrorist hideouts and disrupt the logistics networks that supply them with weapons, explosives, and other resources. The Theatre Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining offensive operations and denying terrorists the freedom to act across the North-West region.
