Steelers invest in defensive tackle Keeanu Benton, signing him to 5-year deal

The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed defensive tackle Keeanu Benton to a five-year contract extension, keeping him with the team until at least 2028. The $73.75 million deal replaces Benton's initial rookie contract signed after being drafted in the second round in 2023. The 25-year-old player, who had his best season yet last year, showcased career-high numbers in tackles (51), tackles for loss (6) and sacks (5.5).

Pittsburgh coach Mike McCarthy praised Benton's athletic ability and potential, noting he believes there is more football left in Benton's career. Benton's new contract will ensure he remains a key defensive asset for the Steelers alongside veteran Cam Heyward, whose own future remains uncertain. The team has made a concerted effort to bolster their defensive line in recent years through draft picks and veteran signings, including Derrick Harmon and Yahya Black.
