Rohingya father, two young sons die in Bagan Serai house fire

On a fateful morning in Bagan Serai, a devastating house fire claimed the lives of a father and his two young sons, both of Rohingya nationality. The victims, Mohd Yunus Nor Ali, 27, and his sons Muhammad Woheed Mohd Yunus, six, and Mohamad Aheed Mohd Yunus, three, perished in the blaze. His wife, Saniya Jahan Juma Abul Kasim, 24, sustained severe burns to her hands and feet and was transported to the hospital for treatment.

The Perak Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 5:17 am, triggering a rapid response. Firefighters arrived at the scene within 13 minutes, deploying two fire engines and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle. The house was already engulfed in flames, with approximately 70% of it destroyed. Upon arrival, the firefighters discovered the woman outside, who informed them that the man and his two sons were trapped inside the burning room.

Firefighters swiftly initiated a search and rescue operation, ultimately locating the three victims within an empty room engulfed in flames. The blaze was extinguished at 6:20 am using a 100-foot hose line and a booster line, powered by the fire engine's tank and water sourced from a nearby drain. The operation concluded at 7:35 am.

The tragedy was confirmed by Health Ministry personnel, who pronounced the victims dead at the scene before their bodies were handed over to the police for further investigation. Preliminary findings suggest the fire ignited in the first room, where the victims were found. The exact cause of the fire and the extent of the losses are still under investigation. Apart from the 24 firefighters and six volunteers from the fire brigade, seven policemen and three Health Ministry personnel also contributed to the rescue effort.
