Rishabh Pant on brink of history, eyes record no Indian batter has achieved in Tests

Rishabh Pant, the wicketkeeper-batter for India, stands on the brink of a historic achievement in Test cricket. With 97 sixes in 50 matches, Pant requires just three more sixes to become the first Indian player to reach the milestone of 100 sixes in the format. Not even Virender Sehwag or Rohit Sharma, two of India's most prolific Test batters, have managed to hit triple figures.

If Pant secures those three sixes, he will join an elite global club, a select group that includes Ben Stokes, Brendon McCullum, and Adam Gilchrist, who have each hit at least 100 sixes in men's Test cricket.

In the lead-up to the first Test in Galle, Pant has demonstrated his intent. During India's warm-up game against Sri Lanka, he smashed three sixes in the second innings, leaving only three more to go for his record-breaking feat. The setting of Galle International Cricket Stadium, which will host its 50th Test, adds to the significance of the occasion.

Galle is known to offer runs early in a Test, but as the match progresses, the surface tends to introduce extra bounce and drift, making batting progressively more demanding, especially as spinners come into the game. Pant's ability to disrupt bowling attacks could prove especially valuable in such conditions.
