Reported Flamingo strike hits Samara industrial area housing factory that builds rockets for Russia’s Starlink rival

Samara Oblast Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev confirmed a missile strike on an unnamed industrial site on August 15, 2026. Ukraine's Center for Countering Disinformation head Andrii Kovalenko reported that the Progress Rocket Space Center was ablaze, though no damage details were provided. Progress is a crucial target due to its role in manufacturing Soyuz-2 rockets, central to Russia's Rassvet satellites, an alternative to Starlink.

While the governor's statement and available imagery do not definitively confirm Progress as the target, Exilenova+ published footage indicating a Flamingo cruise missile strike on Samara. A fully functional Rassvet network could diminish Russia's reliance on unauthorized Starlink terminals. The reported strikes, however, remain unverifiable.

Two Ukrainian FP-5 Flamingo cruise missiles reportedly targeted Samara, possibly aiming at TsSKB-Progress, a firm engaged in medium-class launch vehicle and spacecraft production for Earth observation and scientific use. The industrial zone, situated around 900 kilometers from Ukraine, shares proximity with Aviakor and Progress, though the exact hit site remains unclear from available images.

The region lies roughly 900 kilometers from Ukraine. Kyiv has been progressively targeting factories in Russia to disrupt the supply chains supporting Russian weapons production.
