Rakyat semua kaum tanggung akibat penyelewengan TH, kata Anwar

Anwar Ibrahim, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, said on Monday that the misuse of Tabung Haji (TH) funds cannot be considered solely an Islamic issue, as its consequences also burden the entire Malaysian populace. He emphasized that the actions of a few individuals who are accused of misappropriating TH funds force Malaysians from various backgrounds, including Malays, Chinese, Indians, Iban, and Kadazan, to bear the repercussions.

Speaking at the PKR National Convention 2026 at the International Convention Centre in Malacca, Anwar affirmed that no one should be condemned before the investigation is concluded. He stressed the need for the authority tasked with overseeing TH to conduct the inquiry professionally, irrespective of the party, position, or group involved.

"Do not be hasty, do not follow up, do not consider which party, which position, which group," he warned. Anwar also defended the government's decision to release the TH report, which he said has been approved by the Cabinet without opposition from any Cabinet member. He also wished for the investigation not to stop at matters that occurred until 2020.

"There are people who don't like the term 'suck.' I want to repeat, in Melaka, there is indeed suck in TH. RM12 billion is not just suck. It's real," he said. Anwar also accused some people of being afraid of openly addressing the issue after the related report was made public, leading them to leave Parliament. He also paid tribute to Deputy Prime Minister for Religious Affairs Zulkifli Hasan and Finance Minister II Amir Hamzah Azizan for their statements on the issue.

However, Anwar stressed that the investigation and any subsequent actions are the responsibility of the oversight body and the judiciary. On August 8, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim ordered the investigation into the RCI report on TH to continue "until the end of the earth." The Sultan also noted that all parties responsible will face appropriate actions and measures to ensure such incidents do not recur.

The Sultan then established a special team of officers to investigate the RCI report and seize evidence to assist the investigation.
