PM Shehbaz directs NDMA to provide maximum relief to flood-affected people

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to utilize all available resources to provide maximum assistance and relief to flood-affected people across Pakistan. Speaking at a meeting with NDMA Chairman Inam Haider Malik, Shehbaz emphasized the necessity of efficient coordination between the authority and provincial institutions.

The chairman briefed the prime minister on the country's climatic conditions, particularly the flood threat due to ongoing monsoon rains, and shared updates on relief efforts and rehabilitation measures in affected regions. The PM commended the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and modern technology at the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC).

Malik assured that relief operations would persist in flood-stricken areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir with federal support. The government pledged that relief and assistance would reach the affected population promptly, and every possible resource would be deployed to mitigate flood impacts.

Pakistan's Meteorological Department forecasted rain, thunderstorms, and a possible rise in water levels in the Ravi and Chenab rivers over the next 24 to 36 hours. Tarbela and Mangla reservoirs were at or near full capacity, while the Indus River at key points was flowing at low flood levels. Scattered rain, wind, and thunderstorms were also predicted for various regions, including Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan, with Islamabad, Kashmir, and several districts under potential impact.
