Phil Collins Reveals He’s Been Sober for Three Years

Phil Collins, the renowned drummer and singer of Genesis, has disclosed that he has been sober for three years, escaping the grip of alcohol addiction. In an interview with Prog magazine, Collins recounted the "dark times" he faced due to his unhealthy drinking habits, stating, "I went through some pretty dark times." He detailed how his alcohol consumption often resembled drinking water, with him waking up to have a glass of wine, watching TV, and reading a book.

However, the repercussion of his drinking habits was severe. His kidneys and liver were on the verge of failure, and he was on the brink of death. Collins was admitted for organ failure and remained unconscious for a significant part of a hospitalization in 2024. His family had to make the heart-wrenching decision of taking him off life support.

Despite these health issues, Collins is now feeling better than he has in a long while, crediting his physiotherapy and three years of sobriety. He uses crutches to cope with drop foot, a condition caused by nerve damage. The rock legend also hinted that he might be working on new music, having previously released a 2010 covers album.

Collins will receive a second induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in November, this time as a solo artist. To commemorate the 45th anniversary of his 1981 debut solo album, Collins is releasing a new box set, Face Value (Full Value), on September 18th.
