Passport Verification Bribe? Ghaziabad Cop Allegedly Demands ₹2,000-4,000 From Software Engineer; Video Goes Viral

A video surfaced online allegedly showing a Ghaziabad police officer demanding a bribe of ₹2,000-₹4,000 from a software engineer named Ajay Singh during passport verification at his home in Indirapuram. The engineer, who works for IBM, refused to pay and recorded the entire interaction on his mobile phone. The video depicts the officer sitting inside the engineer's house, checking his documents before allegedly asking for the bribe.

The engineer questioned the officer about the purpose of the payment, whether he would receive a receipt, and if it would qualify for any income-tax exemption. He also inquired if the amount was a commission or fell under a specific category. The officer appeared uncomfortable during the questioning and eventually left the house.

The incident reportedly occurred in Indirapuram, although the authenticity of the video has not been independently verified. Assistant Commissioner of Police Suryabali Maurya stated that the video seems to be old, as the policeman seen in the footage is no longer posted at the Indirapuram police station. An investigation is underway, and appropriate action will be taken based on the facts that emerge.
