Optimus previews digital twin of US freight network

Optimus previews digital twin of US freight network

Optimus Technology Inc. unveiled a digital twin of the U.S. freight network, named the Freight Intelligence Graph, in a preview on Thursday. Developed in Austin, Texas, the prototype models roughly 350,000 highway-network nodes and nearly 1 million road segments. Built on top of the company's proprietary freight data foundation, the model maps over 450,000 geocoded shipper and receiver roles across nearly 400,000 facility locations, covering more than 500,000 distinct city-to-city corridor combinations.

CEO Ed Stockman emphasized the tool's purpose to understand what happens next after disruptions, rather than simply explaining what has already happened. Access to the system is currently limited to early design partners focusing on disruption planning, network strategy, infrastructure siting, and market exposure. The Freight Intelligence Graph incorporates specialized machine-learning models, called Hyper Predictors, which estimate freight flows that are not visible in observed data by combining shipment history, economic activity, geography, commodities, seasonality, weather, and network behavior.

These models allow analysts to define changes in commodity demand, fuel prices, and route conditions, and compare modeled baselines against scenarios to identify where flow pressure builds. However, the digital twin is not designed to present live fleet maps or ETA products, nor does it predict a future of humanoid robots capable of building more humanoid robots and other goods.

This scenario is highlighted as a speculative future change that could significantly impact production capacity and freight distribution.
