NPP has never used nolle prosequi to shield appointees – Baffour Awuah

Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has refuted claims that the New Patriotic Party has ever utilized nolle prosequi to avoid corruption investigations against its appointees. Responding to Majority Chief Whip Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor's assertion that the NPP had previously employed the tactic, Awuah stated unequivocally that this has never occurred during the party's tenure in government.

He pointed to the conviction of former Sports Minister Alhaji Mallam Issah under the previous administration as proof of the NPP's commitment to holding corrupt officials accountable. Awuah emphasized that the ongoing scrutiny of the AKSA Power transaction, particularly in light of allegations of bribery involving former Goldman Sachs banker Tim Leissner Berko, raises significant concerns about the integrity of public decision-making in Ghana.

He argued that the involvement of government officials in the AKSA deal makes the case especially alarming, given their responsibility for the transaction's approval. Baffour Awuah called for a thorough inquiry into the AKSA transaction, demanding accountability from those involved and reforms to prevent such corruption in the future.

He warned that persistent instances of compromised public contracts and subsequent convictions abroad indicate systemic weaknesses in Ghana's anti-corruption measures.
