Not our facility, not our customer: Aviation company distances itself from Subang helicopter fire

SUBANG JAYA, Aug 15 — An aviation maintenance firm has distanced itself from a Kamov Ka-32 helicopter that caught fire at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, stating the aircraft was not its customer and the incident did not transpire at its location. KarbonMRO made the clarification following reports from the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department that the helicopter experienced an engine test-related fire during maintenance work at the airport, resulting in four individuals escaping, one of whom sustained injury from debris.

KarbonMRO's marketing head, Trixie Guantero, emphasized that safety, precision, and professional honesty are integral to the company's practices. The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) reported that the incident unfolded on Taxiway Victor, causing temporary disruptions to airport activities before the runway was re-opened at 2:57pm.

CAAM's CEO, Norazman Mahmud, disclosed that eight inbound flights were rerouted to alternative airports, while three departing flights faced delays during the brief closure. Initially, the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 12:30pm and found the helicopter ablaze upon their arrival. The aircraft, registered UR-CIT in Ukraine, carried four Ukrainians who successfully escaped, and one individual outside the aircraft was reported to have been struck by debris. The situation surrounding the incident is currently under investigation.
