Myanmar refugee, two young sons die in Bagan Serai house fire

IPOH, Aug 15 — A house fire in Bagan Serai claimed the lives of a Myanmar refugee and his two young sons, with the mother sustaining burns in the incident. The Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) reported that the victims were identified as Mohd Yunus Nor Ali, 27, and his two sons, Muhammad Woheed Mohd Yunus, 6, and Mohamad Aheed Mohd Yunus, 3.

Saniya Jahan Juma Abul Kasim, 24, the victim's wife, was also present and suffered burns on her hands and feet. Initially, the family of seven was trapped inside a Class A house measuring 20 feet by 40 feet, which sustained 70 percent damage. According to JBPM director Datuk Sayani Saidon, the team arrived at the scene at 5.30am after receiving an emergency call at 5.17am via the MERS 999 line.

The team launched a search and rescue operation using the RECEO concept, eventually finding the three victims in the first room on fire. Medical officers from the Ministry of Health confirmed the victims' fatalities, while Saniya Jahan Juma Abul Kasim received initial treatment before being transported to the hospital via the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle.

The Royal Malaysia Police took custody of the deceased victims, and the fire was brought under control by 6.20am, with the operation completed by 7.35am. An ongoing investigation aims to determine the exact cause of the fire and assess the losses incurred.
