Meet tiranga vendors who wait for I-Day, R-Day and India’s cricket match in Ahmedabad

Bhumika Vaghela and her husband Arun make a living by selling national flags along the streets of Gandhinagar, earning around Rs 2,000 on a "good day". They are fruit vendors from Vadodara, but come to Gandhinagar every year for Independence Day and Republic Day to supplement their family income. The couple has been doing this for nine years and will return home after the I-Day weekend, taking their savings with them.

Ganesh Barot also sells flags on Sarkhej-Gandhinagar highway, priced between Rs 300-Rs 500, while an autorickshaw driver, Barot, stays in Gandhinagar and sells flags to earn extra money. Several vendors are stationed along high traffic roads such as Sindhu Bhavan road or beneath the Sola Bridge, charging Rs 100 for small flags and Rs 500 for bigger ones.

Matibai, another vendor under the flyover near the Palladium Mall, stays under the bridge as she and her family don't have money for renting a house. Most of these vendors are migrant workers from Rajasthan, and they sell flags made in Delhi during the two festive days of the year.
