Meet Nigerian professor, Ibrahim Abubakar, appointed CEPI CEO

Ibrahim Abubakar, a Nigerian epidemiologist and global health expert, has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI). The appointment was announced by CEPI's board on Friday, following an open recruitment process. Abubakar is set to officially assume his role as chief executive in April 2027, after joining the organization in March 2027.

This comes after the Nigerian president, Bola Tinubu, praised Abubakar's appointment, recognizing his distinguished background as a specialist in global health and infectious diseases. CEPI, founded in 2017, is a global partnership that funds and coordinates vaccine development against emerging infectious diseases. Abubakar's expertise and leadership are expected to bolster CEPI's role in preparing for future epidemics and pandemics.
